A few minutes of prep helps your media digitize at its best. Here's how to get film, photos, and tapes ready before sending them in.

<section id="isPasted" itemprop="articleBody"><h2 id="how-to-prep-film"><strong>How To Prep Film&#xA0;</strong></h2><p>Before sending in your film, it may be a good idea to follow some of these preparatory steps.&#xA0;</p><ol><li>Ridding your media from decades worth of dust bunny infestation.&#xA0;<br>The best way to do this is to blow off your film with a can of compressed air. Don&#x2019;t just physically blow on your film because your saliva can damage it.</li><li>If dusting doesn&apos;t quite do the trick, then you can grab a lint-free cotton cloth to wipe away any oils or fingerprints.</li><li>If you&#x2019;re still not quite there, then a little cotton swab of 98% Isopropyl alcohol can help. But don&#x2019;t try cutting corners with a lower grade alcohol &#x2013; it could leave streak marks and the water content might not evaporate as quickly, possibly damaging your film.</li><li>After you&#x2019;ve cleaned your media, you need to make sure it&#x2019;s in an area that&#x2019;s properly ventilated. Ideally, somewhere a little cool so that the alcohol can evaporate.</li></ol><p>Once you&apos;ve followed these steps, you&apos;re ready to send in your film to be digitized!&#xA0;</p><p><br></p><h2 id="how-to-prep-photo-prints-slides-or-negatives"><strong>How To Prep Photo Prints, Slides or Negatives</strong></h2><p id="isPasted">Cleaning your photos is an important part of preparing your items before shipment. Close inspection of the best kept photos, even in they&apos;ve been sitting in a closed box, reveals all the things they&apos;ve accumulated over the years that will keep them from being scanned at their best.</p><p>To make sure they are their best for scanning, some cleaning may be necessary. While cleaning, consider wearing cotton or latex gloves, to avoid leaving fingerprints, grease, or grime on the surface of the photo. Additionally, make sure any cloths or brushes you use are clean, otherwise they&#x2019;ll just add more dust and grime to the photo.</p><ol><li>Remove any objects that cover the photo.<ol><li>Anything that isn&apos;t a photo should be removed, including sticky notes, adhesive, bits of tape, and rubber bands.&#xA0;</li></ol></li><li>Clean any flecks of paper, dirt, or hair from the photo.<ol><li>Just give your photo a quick shake in the air, or a couple taps on a table.</li><li>Be sure to do this to photos individually, rather than in a stack.</li></ol></li><li>Remove dust from the photo.<ol><li>Dust is the most common bit of crud found on photos.</li><li>Canned air or a bulb blower can be used to remove dust.</li><li>Microfiber cloths or a soft paintbrush can be used dry; do not use any moisture or sprays, like Pledge or Windex as these can damage the photo.</li></ol></li><li>Always clean the storage location for your photos. A clean photo is great, but returning it to a dirty bag, tray, or holder defeats all the hard work of cleaning it in the first place.</li></ol><p>For photos with water damage, like mold or fungus, be cautious. When a photo has mold or fungus, cleaning can damage them more, and depending on the mold or fungus type, it is often unsafe to work with them. If you have moldy photos, we recommend you find a specialist to assist in restoring them.</p><p>Once you&#x2019;ve completed these steps, you&#x2019;re ready to go! Send in your photos, and we&#x2019;ll get them digitized in a flash.</p></section><footer><section><br></section></footer>

How should I prep or clean my media before sending it in?

Every item needs a barcode. The uniquely numbered barcodes in your kit connect each tape, reel, and photo set to your order so nothing gets separated.

These labels are usually in the most visible portion of the tape. Placing barcodes next to or over any existing labels is the best way to ensure your barcode is easily seen.</p><p>Always be sure to barcode the tape or reel itself, and never the case. We prefer to receive just the tape or film reel without any exterior case.<br><br>For pictures and slides, please bundle them in groups of 25 and place them in a clear ziplock bag, and barcode the bag. Please ensure the photos/slides are loose leaf, not in any kind of album, sleeves, cases, or frames.</p></section><footer><section><br></section></footer>

How do I label my items?

No problem. Your prepaid shipping label works on any sturdy box. Pack your items securely, apply the label, and send it in.

The shipping label included with your Legacybox is valid for any box you need to use in order to send your items to us. Please feel free to find another sturdy box to pack your order in. Then, just tape it up securely, and apply the label.</p><h2 id="isPasted" itemprop="articleBody"><p><u>Please note: we are not able to receive multiple shipments for a single order. Please ensure all items are sent in a single package.</u></p></h2><p><br></p><h2 id="what-are-the-dimensions-of-legacybox-"><strong>What are the dimensions of Legacybox? </strong></h2><p>The dimensions don&apos;t determine how many items you can send in, as you pay up front for a pre-numbered amount of items to be converted.</p><p>Additionally, you don&apos;t necessarily have to use our box! If you have too many items to fit in our box, or it&apos;s too big for the few items that you have, you are welcome to use another box. What if all my media won't fit in my Legacybox?

We can only accept one shipment per order. If everything won't fit in the box we sent, pack your items in a single larger box and use your prepaid label.

You&apos;re more than welcome to find a bigger, sturdy box and ship your items in that. Just make sure you use the prepaid shipping label we provide in your Welcome Guide.&#xA0;</p><p>Please do&#xA0;<em>not&#xA0;</em>ship your order in multiple boxes. There&apos;s a couple of reasons why:</p><ol><li>We send a prepaid shipping label for one box. Why have to pay for shipping of another box?</li><li>When we receive your order, our goal is to make sure everything is accounted for. We want everything that is delivered to us to be everything that we return as well. When there&apos;s multiple shipments of the same order, that makes this process much harder.&#xA0;</li><li>Our shipping system is set up to only confirm one box for each order. Having a second or third box will only cause confusion, which is definitely not ideal when dealing with such precious items!</li></ol><p>So, feel free to use your own shipping box but make sure to 1) use our label and 2) only send in one box.</p></section><footer><section><br></section></footer>
