What is an item?Updated a month ago

What's an item?

1 item = 1 tape OR 1 reel OR 1 pack of 25 photo items. You can mix and match the media types you chose to send us!

Below are a few examples of items:

  • 1 videotape
  • 1 film reel (any size up to 10.5 inches)
  • 1 audio reel (any size up to 10.5 inches)
  • 1 audio cassette
  • 1 set of 25 photos prints (any size up to 8.5 x 11 inches)
  • 1 set of 25 slides (standard 35mm or 126)
  • 1 set of 25 negatives (standard 35mm)

Can I mix and match media?

Absolutely! Each Legacybox is pre-paid for a certain number of items, and you can send in any combination of items, no matter what they are.

How do you count film reels?

Each individual reel is counted as one item. If you have smaller films spliced together on a larger reel, it will still only count as one item. We do not count film format by the length of the film, but by each reel you send in.

We are able to convert any size of film reel, up to 10.5". We digitize most consumer format film created including 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm.

We are currently not able to process Regular 9.5mm or Super 9.5mm films. We are not able to digitize the sound line.

How are photos, negatives and slides counted?

Each Legacybox is prepaid for a specific number of items — an item can be a single tape, a single reel, or 25 photos. The photo formats we accept are:

  • 35mm Slides
  • 35mm Half Frame Slides
  • 126 Slides
  • 127 Slides (with the exception of 127 Superslides)
  • 110 Slides
  • Photo Prints  (up to 8.5 x 11, loose or stacked; including Polaroids - no photo albums at this time)
  • 35mm Negatives

Each image on a negative strip counts as one photo. Please note: negatives must be sent in strips; we cannot process individual negatives cut apart or on rolls.

Our 2 Item Legacybox is valid for 50 photos; our 40 Item Legacybox is valid for 1000 photos. You can always mix and match photo items in with your tapes, film reels, and audio items!
