How do you scan pictures? What is the quality?Updated a month ago
What picture types do you accept?
We convert most consumer photo prints, slides, and negatives. Your photos will be scanned so you can see every detail of the original photo. We deliver your photos in high quality JPEG format on thumb drives, CDs, or Digital Access through Google Drive.
While we are able to convert most formats, there are a few we cannot process:
- Photos in albums
- Photo Prints greater in size than 8.5x11 inches
- Glass slides
- 110 or 127 format slides
- Kodak disc film
- Medium or large format negatives
- Advantix film
- Photos, negatives, or slides sent in in any type of sleeve, frame, carousel, box, or album
Can I send my photos to you in albums, frames, cases carousels, or sleeves?
Unfortunately not. We require that photos, slides, and negatives be sent loose leaf, in groups of 25, packaged in ziploc style baggies or envelopes. Each group of 25 should then be labeled with one of the provided barcode stickers on the outside of the baggie or envelope.
We cannot process them if they arrive in albums, frames, cases, carousels, or sleeves. This is to protect your items and ensure they are not damaged by removing them, as well as make sure our process is as timely as possible.
What digital file type will I get back?
We deliver your pictures in high quality JPEG format!
What will the scan resolution be?
Resolution for Photo digital files is measured in DPI, or Dots Per Inch. The inch measurement comes from the size of your original media. We use several different processes to scan your photos, depending on what scanning method is best, and minimum DPI standards they must meet:
- Slides: 2400 DPI
- Photo Prints: 300 DPI
- Negatives: 2400 DPI
Scans at these resolutions are great for sharing on social media, or for editing in the image editor of your choice. Of course, the exact measurements of the Photo digital file will depend on the physical size of the photo itself.
When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes.
